Traveling is expensive and time consuming. So what can you do in between the flights and hotel rooms to keep yourself entertained? Here are seven fun activities to do when traveling.
STEP 1: Learn a Language
Learning a language will help you communicate in different countries and cultures. You’ll also be able to speak the language in your head which is invaluable when you’re trying to think of a word or phrase.
STEP 2: Get Online
If you’re not already online, there’s a lot of cool stuff you can do on the Internet. You can get a virtual tour of a new city, learn a new skill, find out what’s happening in a new country, watch YouTube videos, read blogs, see what people are saying on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites… the list goes on and on.
STEP 3: Read a Book
There’s nothing like a good book to take you away from everything and everyone else. Some of my favorite books I’ve read while traveling are “How to Make Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie, “The Art of Happiness” by Thich Nhat Hanh, “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho, and “Eat, Pray, Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert.
STEP 4: Watch a Movie
Whether it’s a new movie you’ve been dying to see, or a classic you’ve never seen before, there’s something for everyone. From action movies, comedy movies, romance movies, horror movies, and more, you can find a movie that fits your mood and taste.
STEP 5: Try Something New
It may be easier to try new foods when you’re traveling, but it’s also much more fun. If you don’t have a local friend who will recommend someplace new, you can always check out the Lonely Planet website. They have travel guides all over the world with recommendations on where to eat, what to do, and where to stay.
STEP 6: Play a Game
There are many games you can play on your phone or tablet while traveling. If you don’t have one of those, you can download a free app like “Angry Birds” or “Words with Friends.” They’re fun, easy, and require no special equipment.
STEP 7: Take a Road Trip
Whether you’re going to visit friends or family, or just to see where you live, take a road trip. There’s nothing better than getting into a car and driving somewhere new. You can spend the entire day exploring a new city or just spend an afternoon in your hometown.
