the 20th century saw the emancipation and mental and physical development of women. Several women in different countries have been able to compete with man in several areas of life such as sport, literature, space conquest, science etc. She proved that she is equal to the man.

Woman’s History Month
-Government : Jeanne was the first woman elected to US house of representatives .
-Science and Medicine: Ellen became the first professional chemist in the us after graduation in 1973.
-Literature and publishing :Edith became the first woman to win Pulitzer Prize fiction in 1921.
-Film : Alice in 1896 became the first American female film director with the release of her film to cabbage fairy during her career she directed over 300 short films.
-Music:in 1944, Mary became the first woman to conduct a symphony .
-Air and space :in 1932 Amelia became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.
-Military : in 1993 Sheila was appointed secretary of the Air Force becoming the first woman to hold this high level position for any branch of the US military .
-Sport in 1967 Althea became the first woman to win the tennis singles .
In 1986 the National Woman’s History project petitioned the United state Congress to recognize the whole month of March as national Eoman ‘s History Month.

These eight women are historical exemples about value of women in US and in the world:
-Jeanette Rankin as the first woman elected to the US House of representatives.
– Ellen Swallon Richard, graduated in 1873, became the first professional chemist in the US.
– Edith Wharton was the first woman to win a Pulitzer Prize.
– Alice Guy Blache, became the first American Females Film Director.
– Mary Davenpotrt-Engberg was the first to conduct a Simphony Orchestra.
– Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the atlantic ocean.
-Sheila Widnall was the appointed Secretary of the Air Force, being the first woman to hold this high-level position.
-Althea Gibson became the first woman (and african-american) to win the tennis single title at Wimbledon.
WOMEN´S HISTORY MONTH
In 1987, the United States Congress approved the designation of March as “National Women’s History Month.” Since then, March has been celebrated with special programs and activities in schools, workplaces, and communities, recognizing the achievements of women in all areas of knowing and doing such as science, math, politics, arts, and athletics.
A common theme in school curricula is the women’s suffrage movement in the United States. Starting in 1920, after decades of pickets, petitions and protests, today women can fully exercise the vote and all other civil rights.
